Specifications for
Sanitary Sewer Lateral Installlation
-
No stormwater or groundwater is permitted to drain into the sanitary
sewer lateral.
-
No pipe smaller than 4 inch diameter can be used on the customer lateral.
Additional intermediate cleanouts are required at all bends 11 1/4 degrees
or greater and at 100 foot intervals.
-
A trap is mandatory on the lateral
-
An inspection port is mandatory located on or near the property line
-
All pipe and fittings must meet or exceed the following specifications:
-
PVC (plastic) - SDR 35, ASTM 3034, SCH40 (push on)
-
DIP (ductile iron pipe) - CL50, CL51 Double Cement Line (ANSI A.21.51,
A.21.10)
-
All sewer laterals must be buried to a depth to prevent freezing (recommended
minimum depth is 4 feet).
-
All sewer laterals must be properly bedded on a 4 to 6 inch layer of
tamped stone (2RC, 2A Modified or Limestone Dust) and, upon inspection
and approval by the Authority's inspector, backfilled with at least 12
inches of tamped stone above the sewer lateral with the remainder of the
trench backfilled with select suitable material.
-
The Authority requires the placement of an impermeable "dike" somewhere
in your trench for your connection line. The sewer mains and your
connection line are bedded in gravel. This can allow groundwater
to flow along the lines to your foundation causing possible foundation
or basement problems with water. Persons in other local sewer projects
have reported groundwater flowing into their property along the gravel
bed. A clay dike somewhere in your connection trench will prevent
the flow of groundwater onto your property.
-
The Pegasus Sewer Authority strongly reccomends, but does
require that lateral connections include an anti backflow valve located
somewhere close to the dwelling. Use of this device may prevent back
flows of sewage from the line into your home during especially rainy or
wet periods, and
Note: The entire sewer lateral must be left uncovered
for inspection by the Authority's Representative, at a minimum, the installer
must notify the Authority 48 hours in advance to schedule such inspection,
backfilling can only begin after the Authority's Inspector has approved
the lateral installation and signed your tap in certificate. The
signed certificate is your proof of an inspected lateral and will avoid
the necessity for redigging up the lateral.
